Testicular Cancer

In patients with testicular cancer, removal of the testicle (orchiectomy) is the first step in treatment. This procedure provides important information about the type of cancer present and disease staging, which are crucial for determining the best treatment options. When the disease is more advanced, testicular cancer spreads to the lymph nodes behind the major organs of the body first.  In such cases, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) may be recommended to treat the disease.

Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND)

Robotic RPLND is a safe, effective, minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove retroperitoneal lymph nodes in men with testicular cancer. For the patient, this technique means less post-operative discomfort, a shorter hospital stay, and less scarring than traditional open surgery.  Patients who undergo robotic RPLND generally return to work and their normal daily activities earlier.
