New York State named St. Peter's Hospital as a state Designated Stroke Center because its "physicians, nurses and pharmacists are organized to respond in the most efficient manner to minimize the effects of a stroke."
The Stroke Center at St. Peter's features an acute stroke care team (beginning in the Emergency Department and in the Stroke unit); designated acute care beds for stroke patients; state-of-the-art neurodiagnostic services; and, a full continuum of rehabilitation levels of care.
St. Peter's also provides periodic stroke screenings and information programs for the public. In partnership with the St. Peter's Cardiac & Vascular Center, the Stroke Center provides free health screenings to the public. Through community health fairs, educational advertisements, and other forums, St. Peter's helps people recognize stroke symptoms and the need for immediate medical attention.
