Emergency Care

Emergency Department at St. Peter's Hospital

St. Peter's Emergency Department (ED) is one of the busiest in the region. A team of specially trained staff responds to a wide range of illnesses and injuries—24 hours a day, seven days a week—for patients of all ages. The ED includes a full staff of board-eligible/certified emergency physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, patient-care technicians, patient information associates, and chaplains who work together as a team to provide a patient-focused approach to emergency care.

Designated a Dedicated Heart & Stroke Emergency Center by the New York State Department of Health, St. Peter's highly trained ED staff can minimize the effects of stroke and heart attack with prompt, knowledgeable care. As the first emergency department in the Capital Region equipped to receive 12-lead EKGs from providers, we manage EMT teams in the field, instructing them how to deliver pre-emptive, life-care. Fast response and rapid care by emergency medical experts save brainloss in stroke victims and save heart muscle following a heart attack—greatly increasing the patient's chances for survival and recovery. St. Peter's ED is designed to get patients the most advanced care.
